Professor James McAdams of the governm ent depa rtm en t has been announced as th is year’s recipient o f the Shcedy Award for teaching. The award, w h ich has been in exis­ tence for over twenty years, is presented a n n u a lly by the College of A rts and L e tte rs to a teacher who has demonstrated excellence in teach ing w ith in the college. The selection committee for the award is comprised of former w inners as w e ll as students from the A rts and L e tte rs Student Advisory Council. College o f A rts and Letters Dean Marry Attridge says that dedication to the teaching pro­ fession and a reputation as a stim ulating lecturer were two o f the q ua litie s w hich in f lu ­ enced the committee’s decision to des igna te M cAdam s th is McAdams year’s Sheedy Aw ard w inner. A c c o rd in g to A ttr id g e , M cAdam s is “ someone who clearly puts himself out for the students.” Though McAdams has only been teaching in the govern­ m en t d e p a rtm e n t a t N otre Dame for four years, Attridge insists tha t McAdams has a l­ ready gained a d istinguished reputa tion among fe llow co l­ leagues and students in his as­ sociation w ith the Kellogg and Krock Institutes as well as his w o rk as a m entor fo r Notre Dame Fullbright Scholars. “ He’ s proved h im s e lf in a very short time to be a leading co lleg ia te c itizen , both as a professor and a mentor to stu­ dents,” Attridge said. McAdams said tha t he was “ de ligh ted and f la tte re d ” to receive the award. “ Certainly there are a lot o f very deserv­ ing people in the c o lle g e ,” McAdams said. “ Therefore, I was absolutely th rille d to get it .” McAdams employs w hat he ca lls the “ S hery l C row ap-
